Weathervane - One is a Fabulous Outdoor Decoration

Weathervanes
There are two main kinds of decoration for the home when you're talking about outdoors. There's the type that incorporates the thought system that every item must match every other item used in the decorating scheme and then there is the thinking that the items used should have a meaning to the person setting up the décor scheme using items that invoke specific feelings or meanings. Wouldn't it be great to find an item that could give you the best of both worlds? You can have it in a weathervane.

It's not just for telling you the direction of the wind, a weathervane is also an outstanding decoration value in the garden, on a gazebo or on the rooftop of your home or garage. And you don't have to choose a traditional design either. Granted a running horse or a straight standing rooster looks fabulous and is a callback to days gone by evoking a homey and cozy charm; you may want symbols or something that has a special meaning to you.

For example, a copper sun face weathervane is a glorious way of bringing sunshine to your outdoor décor all year round. The sun is traditionally a symbol of the male and also of brightness, intelligence and goodness. Some cultures consider the symbolism of the sun to be lucky especially when the sun is depicted with a human face. Or, maybe you are into nature and the lovely outdoors, then a fabulous choice for you would be those that have a nature theme. Like, you can get one that is in the shape of a giant black bear, another that looks like a moose, one that is in the shape of a fish, and there are even ones that have the appearance of pine trees and others that look like deer.

Believe it or not, the choices don't end there when it comes to all the weathervane options that are available. For example, if you really have a need for speed, you can get ones that are in shape of motorcycles, dragsters, airplanes, and locomotives. Nautical themed selection are another available choice and if you have a favorite college sports team that you like, that is even available too since there are ones in the shape of college mascots.

Feel like checking out the different weathervane choices? If so, the thing to do is to hit the Internet for some online shopping. While on the World Wide Web, you can breeze through the different stores and their selections. When you do come across something you like, finding it at the best price possible is easy and it will even be sent right to you at your home. So, you don't have to waste time and money by leaving your house. Now that is convenient.

When it comes down to it, if you want a versatile outdoor decoration, simply invest in a wonderful weathervane. It is an outdoor fixture that you cannot go wrong by investing in.

Copper Weathervanes - Take Your Yard Back in Time With One

Weathervanes
Have you always been in love with the days past? Is the idea of living in the movie 'Gone With the Wind' or hopping into an old White House photograph the perfect home and yard? While many people may tell you those days have come and gone, you can take a jump into the traditional past, if you know the right way to decorate your yard.

Copper Weathervanes

Before you even consider the plants you want to use in your backyard, you need to understand the accents you will be choosing.

One thing that often was a descriptor in the past was copper weathervanes. These used to be a major part of predicting weather and what was coming from Mother Nature. Long before there were TV meteorologists and the Weather Channel, people used copper weathervanes, perched on a roof, to see where the wind was coming from and predict what the weather was going to do.

While you may not need weathervanes today to be able to predict the weather, as you can just turn on the TV in the morning, these are still a very important piece of having a yard from the past. So, you should start by deciding how many of these you will have and where you will place them.

When it comes to selecting a location for your copper weathervanes, there are a few options:

• On the Roof - Even if you don't; have a barn for a home or a barn in the backyard, you can still have a weathervane on the roof. You can choose to either put it on the roof of your home or on the roof of a shed or other structure that is in your yard. One unique way to put one up is on top of a bird house, or dog house, that is shaped like a barn.

• In the Yard - Contrary to popular belief, weather vanes are not relegated to a rooftop. Many people like to see them a little closer, and allow them to be the center of attention, by placing them on free-standing posts in the yard. The important thing to keep in mind while doing this is that if you want your copper weathervanes to respond to the wind and weather you need to make sure to place them high enough that they will be able to feel the wind. This usually means 15 feet, or more, off the ground so they can clear the roof of your house.

Once you have the weathervanes in place, you're not done yet. You now need to make sure the rest of your yard looks the part and this means choosing the right plants to have growing. Make sure to accent the yard with traditional plants such as roses and carnations. You can also choose more edible traditional plants such as sunflowers, corn, tomatoes and bean plants if you are looking for a more 'Wizard of Oz' barn house feel.

If you have kids, planting a farm garden is a great project they can get involved in while you teach them a little about the past.
